June gets ready for 2020 with Kia Takatū ā-Matihiko

For June Thompson, Digital Technologies is an area of learning she has an active interest in applying in her classroom. Since joining Kia Takatū ā-Matihiko, the National Digital Readiness Programme, she has gained more knowledge and resources to add to her pīkau (or toolkit). June is gaining confidence and increasing her readiness to implement the new and revised Digital Technologies curriculum content in the Technology Learning Area.  

 

As a junior school team lead at St Albans School, June has been actively attending Kia Takatū ā-Matihiko meetups, in particular Code Club 4 Teachers. June believes in making the most of opportunities available to her and she wants her fellow teachers to do the same.I want you to know that it is fun at these courses, because no matter what you did, it was not wrong, it’s just a matter of debugging.” 

 

Digital Technologies is not about using a device or being connected to the internet; there are a lot of exciting things to explore as part of the digital readiness programme. June discovered unplugged activities by attending meetups. “They are fun activities that teachers can then transfer into the classroom with the help of the CSUnplugged website.

 

Through her participation in Kia Takatū ā-Matihiko, June has appreciated being able to network with other teachers from a variety of schools and teaching levels. The new activities and take home resources meant she could continue her learning in her own time and share this new learning with her colleagues.
