Ko Māui Hangarau bringing tech entrepreneurs and rangatahi together

On Wednesday Janelle Riki-Waaka, WHARE Isaac-Sharland and myself were lucky enough to attend Ko Māui Hangarau on Wednesday in Tauranga Moana. This IT-based event maybe future-focussed but it draws inspiration from a common ancestor who is famed for his being daring, audacity, and innovation.

That common ancestor being Māui! It was exciting, humbling and breathtaking as some of the brightest tech innovators in Aotearoa talked about being digital in te ao Māori. The highly successful presenters talked about a common theme - not fitting in at school, creativity as a distraction and not part of their learning; and yet they've all gone on to do amazing things and changing lives locally and globally.

Big shout out to @Nikora_Ngaropo for sharing his journey in digital animation in Aotearoa. We're lucky to have Nikora as part of Kia Takatū ā-Matihiko, as we ready our tamariki and rangatahi for an exciting future as digital transformers/innovators.

Jacinda Adern

Also nice to see our prime minister and her cabinet members supporting these exciting developments too. #belikeMāui. Hopefully this will become an annual event.
