First steps in Digital Technologies

If you’re a secondary teacher who is keen to take your first steps in teaching Digital Technologies | Hangarau Matihiko, then these workshops are for you.

 

These events are particularly focused on people who have no background in computational thinking and computer science, and are teaching NCEA level 1 topics for the first time, or would like to go over the basics really carefully.

 

DT4HS | Pou Rarama is based on the University of Canterbury's CS4HS programme and is a collection of workshops focused on preparing New Zealand educators for teaching the Digital Technologies achievement standards for NCEA level 1.

 

Participants will -.

1. Explore the NCEA level one computer science standards, covering human-computer interaction, algorithms and compression.

2. Have a gentle introduction to programming based around the languages Scratch and Python (which are popular in NZ high schools)

3. Be given an overview of level 2 and 3 NCEA Digital Technologies standards

 

The workshops are lead by Professor Tim Bell from the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering at the University of Canterbury. He is in demand internationally helping teachers understand new computing curricula. He has received many awards for his work in computing education. He also plays instruments that have black and white keys. He has been leading CS4HS for over 7 years now.

 

This meet up will be delivered in English however the content will also be useful to kaiako from Wharekura Māori as well as the knowledge covered in these sessions are relevant to Māori Medium contexts.

There is no cost to attend the workshops, we will provide you with a coffee, meals and free professional development. Registration is required.
